Winamp
Winamp is the great granddaddy of all media players. We like it because it works well and can receive Shoutcast and Icecast broadcasts from our live events. It also tries really hard to stay away from a lot of the DRM/copy technology and forcing shopping links down your throat. It's also llama powered.

Trillian
The best chat client that you can use. It works on all the networks, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, etc. and, most importantly, simultaneously. You can put all your friends' contacts from all those different services all in one place amd talk to all of them at the same time. And its free.

Firefox and Thunderbird
The best browser. Period. It's stable, blocks almost every popup, displays pages accurately, runs faster, uses less memory, and won't compromise your system like Internet Explorer does. And besides, Internet Explorer is a smoldering piece of crap if you haven't figured that out by now. Need any more reasons? Well how about the best mail program to go with the best web browser?

Juice
This is the best open-source cross-platform easiest to use podcast receiver. Once we get DownCitySignal and RattleHead updated again, this is the podcaster we will be using to conduct our mayhem. You have been warned.

Skype
Call free to any Skype user anywhere. If you want people with real phones to reach you, it's $30/year. If you want a real connection to dial out, it costs 1.02 cents/minute.

Audacity
Audacity is an open-source, cross-platform, professional grade audio editor that is free. Every emphasis is made to keep it simple, fast, and clean. It's still young and growing, but promises to be a great alternative to the commercially licensed programs that are available.

Ubuntu
If you are interested in trying Linux to see what all the fuss is about and want to start simple, Ubuntu is the easiest to use and install. In fact, it comes on a live CD, which is a special kind of Linux that allows you to put the disk in the drive, turn on the computer, and it will boot up into a completely different operating system. Then, you play around, shut it down, take the CD out, and the computer will be back the way it was when you found it.

Dynebolic
DYNEBOLIC is what is commonly called a Linux "live CD". What this means is that you put the disk in the drive, turn on the computer, and it will boot up into a completely different operating system. Then, you do your work, shut it down, take the CD out, and the computer will be back the way it was when you found it. Cool!

Dynebolic specializes in audio and video editing... so put the disk in any computer, boot it up, and you will have a computer set up with hundreds of free software programs setup just for editing and broadcasting audio.
