Finally a little cooler out; I swear last weekend, the two shows we played were some of the hottest of the summer. Drenched! And here’s how the local rock scene looked through my eyes last week...

Last Friday we poured ourselves into The Met. What was funny is that LL Cool J had the entire Met Street cocked blocked bumper-to-bumper with his inconspicuous bus (facetious) and entourage. I was yell’n out all the throw downs at the bus. Ya know, "Don’t call this a comeback!!", "Go’n back to Cali!", and of course "Mama said knock you out!" To no avail, the bus & trailers stayed. Nice bitch getting our equipment into The Met. Forget the rap because we had the rock at The Met.

So of course the AC in The Met was set to meager so it was a hot sweaty rock show.

The crowd came in nicely for the night. Plenty of fans known, one’s not seen in a while and new ones made. Of course it was a special night with it being Freakshow's last local appearance before embarking on their cross-country tour to Cali. Aside from a few tech thangs in FS’s set (equipment is always fun to deal with) everyone rocked and had a great time in the heat of the night. Some new friends in a band from Baltimore called Eat your Neighbors played also. It was a surprise to find out Transparent's replacement (they were supposed to play but had to cancel / this is ex-Freakshow bass Mike Charpentier’s new band with members of Richard [if you remember their short-lived band] and Marco [long time Freakshow fan and local music fan also new band Radio Wallpaper’s drummer]) the band "Switch 9" is actually the infamous Amish Alcoholics reincarnated. If anyone remembers their shows it usually involved a whole helluva lot of freaky stage props and antics. Ya know, stuff like midgets (of course! Rock ‘n’ Roll has always = midgets!!), Styrofoam coffins with dry ice and hurling on The Met stage. Well I guess they’ve sworn all that off (damnit) and just deliver the rock now.

Hey -- and Jon T. -- where the hell did you go that night? I was all set for you to do a little Jane Says improve. I was looking out on the crowd like, "Hey, did Jon Tierney split?"

I pretty much just stayed up all night after the gig doing various illegal things and just rolled right into the Saturday continuing gig with Freakshow and Eat Your Neighbors again this time for an outdoor party in Moosup CT. We’ve played this place before. It’s simply known as "Bills House." What they did is, out back, build a pretty fucking bona-fide huge stage that looks out over a rising field. It’s like a mini-Woodstock back there. The shin-dig was supposed to kick it with bands starting in the afternoon but as you all know the heat was frigg’n unbearable so we delayed until the sun got behind the trees. The stage only had a make-shift tarp patchwork over it that didn’t really afford much protection. The people started arriving in healthy droves and the keg was flow’n!

Eat Your Neighbors kicked it off followed by a local Metal/Hardcor-ish band called Our Final Chapter and them we/slugworth took it home as darkness fell and they lit-up the huge bon-fire across the field in front of the stage. That looked cool (plus it was our only source of light) to play in. Firelight on a fret-board is way cool. After all was said, done, played, smoked, drank and late-nighted back at my house I finally crashed around 2:30.

On Sunday, I once again apologize to Nate F. for not being able to play acoustic at some fund raising beni gig in Plainfield CT. A few multiple factors there. You/Nate know why. Damn that sucks you all, the other bands had to play outside. I hope they had a canopy/tent or something cuz that was another ball bust’n hot day.

Last night/Wed I stopped into Cat’s/KC’s/Pawtucket to amongst other things get my frigg’n fan back from Jiya. Just busting but I really could’ve used that thing last weekend at The Met & CT house party gigs. I think I lost 20 lbs in sweat. Some cool peep’s hanging out (Kevin [former Living Room sound and looks like he’s do’n sound at Cat’s too now], Kris Hansen ["The Problem" and Cat’s sound], The Haymakers, and Jiya.

I know 3 Speed Amplifier played but I missed that I think or it was coming up after the new band "The Mercy Beat." Local music supporter and organizer Jillian is championing them and I’m glad I had a chance to catch the last half of their set. Hey Jil, get me their info so I can get them on the network. Cool art-glam-punk-Bowie 3 piece thing. Fresh.

OK, this is change-news worthy. Spogga E’d me yesterday and said it’s going to be his last weekly Green Room gig. Don’t know the reasons for the change yet but he’s had a great residency there for a long time. Over that time I had my fair share of catching that Thursday night show and I tell ya it takes a lot of innovation to do that every week and keep it fresh and different. Spogga always pulled it off with special guests and surprises. He was always messing around (in a good way) with his band line-up and had a song repertoire that never got boring and I’m sure he’s got a few things up his sleeve for this special night.

OK, there’s your look back at local rock through these eyes. You know what to do, pick your shows, go out, have some drinks, enjoy the rock and if you’re lucky get laid. The basics.

Coming in at furious angle. Yes, I am on the local music move. Shit, after last night, that was tough being near a TV, you can only take so much 911 remembrance without getting pissed and down all at once. Especially when they bring out the kids.

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow.
