Have You Seen This Cat? 10.19.02 @ Century Lounge with Riley, Greyshine, Jiya, and The Perversions.
So there's this show called Have You Seen This Cat? at the Century. The Diggla gets the call from Editor Man to go write the review, so I strap on the baggies and head on down. I'm walking down past all those club girls and my heart is heavy, 'cuz I know that where I'm goin' there ain't going to be nearly as many tasty morsels. Don't get me wrong, da diggla has a rock and roll heart, but no one goes to local music so there's sometimes nights a bit lackng in scenery, if you know what I mean. But da diggla knows the truth; club hoes may look tasty, but they all plastic and silicone and spackle... most of them are downright evil underneath, right to the core. Rock chicks aint dressed up since 1985, I don't know why; but they got all other girls beat on substance alone. Never a dull moment when they're around.
But I walk in and the night isnt bad at all. The band Riley is playing and there's a flock (a pack, a gaggle, whatever) of little high school cuties like Girls Gone Wild: The Jailbait Edition. Riley are a cool punkish kinda thing. Definitely cool to watch and not at all like Blink 182, which can be a problem sometimes in these parts. And even though I'd never go for the after school special, its fun to think about. Besides, like all high school chicks at shows, they all leave when their band finishes anyway. Fickle like dat.
Then Greyshine comes out and they have an honest to God babe who can sing, which is cool. Their songs are kind of lonely sounding. I can't explain it, but the more I listened, the more I wanted to shout, "Stella!!". They also do a great boy/girl harmony thing which gives me wood just thinking about it.
The next band was Jiya, which I was looking forward to 'cause I've seen them before and they are the best by far band to drink Bud Light to. I've also had great sex to Strawberry Jam, so I have this Pavlov thing going whenever I hear it. Besides, Greyshine had brought these other cuties, one in cat print and some blonde chick in pink who looked like a cupie doll of some kind. Beautiful.
So some dude with a crushed velvet Paul Revere coat is walking around. Like all he needed was ruffled sleeves and platforms and he could be Prince. Whatsupwitthat? Two other fine femme fatales show up with their guys. Looks like they went to dinner at Prov or something and decided to go take in the local flavor so to speak. Definitely classy, and definitely out of place. I love when ordinary folk check out the local music scene; they all get that "I don't understand the question" look. Local music is for true believers.
Now I was feeling pretty hot after Jiya, let me tell ya, and these two new ladies just reeked of "out of your price range, sweetie", so I left when the Perversions came on. I just couldn't take the heat no more. The Perversions are best described as a quick little three piece, but they were sounding real rough when they started so the Diggler's timing may have been on the mark as usual. Besides, there was some blonde chick up front with two nubby pigtails on top of her head like antennae. I hate that shit. |
