Bring on the fucking weekend!! I’m gearing up, how bout ya all? Thought so. Good. But first let’s recap local music happenings that I personally bore witness to and heard about last week.

Let’s see, gotta think (yes, it’s hard sometimes ain’t it?). Right, last Friday me and slug-bass Jay Quinn hung out at The beautiful and posh Safari Lounge with Optic Lock, Humbuck and Overfiend. Humbuck, what can you say about them? Laughing. Hell, it’s just a wall of mental rock noise coming at you full on like a berserker. Frantic distorted playing with changes that melt into one other where you can’t even tell it was a change. How does one practice that? If you like your rock and roll band loud, noisy and whacked then you should see them. I think they’re from the more towards Boston area maybe. Overfiend, Sam and his gang have been doing there thing for a while and def have a signature Overfiend dark and deep heavy hardcore rock thing going on and they deliver it well every time. I was starting to bounce around and be on the In and Out after that but I’m sure Optic Lock put forth their excellently polished rock chops. The Safari was pack’n the peep’s in, too. We do love that place.

Thanks to that dude from Baileys Band for passing me that CD to. I’ve been checking it. I’m hearing some Sonic Youth compliment going on there. But I’m still gett’n into it. Switch 9 probably maybe played too, 'cuz they were in the house (thx for the CD and glad you could sign on to our/slugworth Cat’s gig on 11-8). Andre, from the now disbanded, "Curmudgeon Clique" was hanging too.

Saturday we/slugworth raced down to West Warwick and poured/puffed ourselves The Stations all day Band Blow out. Caught Jesus Candy before we hit it at 9:30 and hung in for most all of Mutha Ugly before having to blast back up to the city. Chatted a bit with Emery Vesch, too (who also played earlier). And thanks to Emery Vesch for signing onto our 11-30 Safari gig. Thanks out again to Kevin at The Station and his crew for a great time. Man, that sound system kicks major ass there!! And they all have their totally professional game on there. And thanks out to the really drunk chick doing handstands and things of the like in front of the stage. Great. Ever notice every Friday or Saturday night rock show always has some one like that at it? Just what you want to take all the attention off your music. Laughing, whatever, it’s the nature of the "get wasted weekend" mentality.

Sunday, I think I passed out finally. And always ready to do it all again.

Coming in at furious angle. Yes, I am on the local music move. Shit, after last night, that was tough being near a TV, you can only take so much 911 remembrance without getting pissed and down all at once. Especially when they bring out the kids.

Finally a little cooler out; I swear last weekend, the two shows we played were some of the hottest of the summer. Drenched! And here’s how the local rock scene looked through my eyes last week...

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow.
