Blackstone Valley Crew CD Release Party 11.09.02 @ Jarrod's
The Diggla likes Blackstone Valley Crew. Not only because they have a way of grabbin' all the attention when they're working it, but because they have this cute little skater girl playing guitar. You don't see many chicks playing instruments in bands anymore. I don't know why, you just don't. Plenty of singers, but not many players. And since they added the second guitar (they're a 7 piece!), the sound has gotten heavier and less like a beatbox free styler thing. A plus in my book.
Now, there was no way I was gonna spend all day at this thing; it started at like three in the afternoon and I can't spend that much time in one place unless there's Porn N Chicken involved. So I mosey'd in around 10:30 and BVC was just setting up. The Diggla's timing, as usual, was perfect. The crowd was decent, and there were definitely some sweet honeys all around. (Especially that awesome bartender! Talk about low-rise jeans, yow!)
The whole federation was there, too: State of Corruption played, and I caught them hanging 'round chatting with the dynamic duo from RattleHead. (A little S&M - hah!) There was the crew from Ill Natured, and the singer dude got up and threw down with the BVC during one of their songs. There was a bunch o folk I remember from the Backroom Fest in August, and a coupla punk freaks from the Living Room last September... like I said, the whole federation. I was also hoping to run into Satyr (Slugworth), since we both write for this rag and have never met face to face. Nope... the infamous Satyr had left the building.
So just after I arrive, BVC just hits it and the place explodes. It's a cd release party (the name of the CD is Ohana -- which means "family", according to the dude who kept saying so on the mic) and the best thing about release parties I think is the fans all seem to know the words and everyone's singing along. Lotsa love in the room, and that's what the Diggla's all about.
While we're on the subject of love, lets talk about the Mastaminds. They closed the show after BVC, and the supermodel effect was in full force. Those of you that have been to a Masterminds show before know the high level of quality babes that come out to see them. I don't know what their secret is, but you go to any Mastaminds show and you'll see about 200 people suddenly come in the door to see them play, and half of them are like Victoria's Secret models or something. I know what you're thinking, it's just da Diggla daydreamin', but I'm not the only one who's noticed this shit. It's absolutely funny, suddenly it's like you're backstage at a runway show and surrounded by 6'2" women asking you if their thong's on straight. (And you're wishing you were a rock star.)
So I gotta give props to BVC for a slammin show and Mastaminds for not only kicking the roof off, but for bringing out da honeys. Thank you! The only sad part is about Mastaminds... one o them is going to boot camp and the Mastaminds will be putting shows on hold for a coupla months. When they return, The Diggla will be first in line for tickets, I guarantee. But for now, I'm going to pop in my copy of Ohana and drive to meet this chick Tammy I met at Sam's Record's and Tapes in Cranston. I'm betting the tunes will shake something loose. |

An that's not the only reason to come down to the show tonight. Four o the best bands are playing right now... Immune, The Stereobirds (with the smokin hot Heather Rose), Immune, M-80, and Mastamindsz (of course). Whatta craaazy night. That's a too much Tequila wake up on the bathroom floor kinda show. M-freakin'-80. Thats all I gotta say, right? Holy crap. | |
