Coming in at furious angle. Yes, I am on the local music move. Shit, after last night, that was tough being near a TV, you can only take so much 911 remembrance without getting pissed and down all at once. Especially when they bring out the kids. |

That’s right, before we burst forward (I love bursting, it’s healthy) into the continuing local rock fray, we do look back through the haze of last weekend to see what was do’n and what’s new’n or whatever dude’s/ette’s.
Last last Friday (11/2), I blasted into Cat’s a little late (waiting for "things" sucks sometimes, damnit) but made it just as The Haymakers (Yes, one of the best original rock bands around) were hitt’n it. Smok’n. Thanks out to the boyz for lett’n me wail on backing for their rendition of The Beatles "Birthday" and G ‘n’ R’s "It’s so Easy." Even got to return and did a little guitar string change tech for Jeff when one broke on him. Note: Get a frigg’n machine head to wind thy strings, that was kind of a bee-ach.
Near the end of that I sped (Oh yes, I speed well) over to The Green Room to catch another of my favs, the ever blistering rock and onstage entertainment of The Motormags (http://www.motormagsrock.com). I swear those guys are fucked up but deliver the rock regardless.
Last Friday (11/8) we did a gig at Cat’s/KC’s Tap (www.kcstap.com) I put together with Routine 8 and Switch 9. Great time as usual. As always, Kevin and his staff takes care of things better than good. The renovations continue there and hopefully soon the upstairs and catwalk area will be open and then that place will be by far one of the coolest venues to rock at. All local bands should swing by and check it out. I know a lot of you haven’t yet. Trust me. Thanks also out to Jeff from The Haymakers for doing the sound duties and the new sound dude in training (Jamie I think?).
Even with a shitty head/sore throat cold kick’n in I pulled it off. Just a few more low notes than high. Also this marked the fill-in temp return of Dave Avery on slug-drums. Reminder: slugworth is seeking a permanent new drummer (call 860-564-4209).
Last Sat (11/9) was the huge Jarrod’s (http://www.jarrodsplace.com) show we did for the Blackstone Valley Crew (Blackstone Valley Crew online) CD release. My illness was still peaking, but I shut up and laid low most of the day so I could deliver. We played early (always a little weird) and I pulled it off. I hung in their for 4-1/2 hours and caught after us Kobalt, Letdown and S.O.C.
I apologize that I was a little out of it due to being run down by the sickness (playing the night before didn’t help but ya know, gotta do the dew). And sorrys out to BVC for not hanging in their a couple more hours to catch them and Mastamindz. I’m an idiot for forgetting to grab a copy of the CD to but no worries cuz ya know I’ll get it and I always catch all the bands eventually as the local rock weeks continue cuz that’s what I do cuz I love it.
All in all, it looked like a successful event. The crowd was really picking up around mid-evening. The only thing that sucked is a stolen equipment issue for BVC; which should be top news and should raise awareness cuz every year we get this. It’s been almost a week and none of the other bands on the bill have come up with it as taken mistakenly after going through their shit and unloading the equip so it appears it was fucking ripped off at the all day Jarrods gig. And "it" is Josh’s guitar and wireless rig.
Posting from Josh:
"BVC is missing a guitar. It was either left and taken or mistakenly taken by another band at the BVC CD release party at Jarrods Place on 11.09.02. The guitar is a RED BVC Rich Warlock with Black and White stripes in the pattern of Eddie VanHalens old guitar. It is in a Black gig bag with "ValleyGear" stenciled on the side. The guitar also had a Black strap screwed to the body with a Shure wireless transmitter duck taped to it. Go to this page for a photo of the guitar... http://www.blackstonevalleycrew.com/pics/x_10.jpg Email me at moshua@cox.net."
So everyone, please keep an eye on your equip because scum is out there and scum, among other shit, steals. If anyone wants to help in doing a beni show where proceeds can go to replace the equip feel free to contact me with ideas because we all know how expensive this shit is and it’s not like anyone’s got a warehouse full of spares.
We’ve got some gigs coming up that are already in place so at min we may donate any slugworth CD sales that night to help cover the rip. Stay tuned and watch your backs.
OK, scarfing off Gulla’s Phoenix article read where Mackenzie is no longer on the drums and now replaced by a dood who’s name I don’t know yet. Plus they gots a DJ and a guest rapper to. Check the change Sat night at The Green Room.
Sky Blue Valium has ended just as fast as they began. Sucks cuz they were a cool new hard rock band but ya know how it goes. Haven’t heard who’s gonna do what if anything from the fallout.
Hey, Zeus (if ya know him) is now onboard for bass for The Comic Book Superheroes. Cool.
Shed is heading back into the studio (Danger / Joe Moody). Always cool news to know there’s more music you can take home coming from them. And also at Danger it appears SOC is going to go for the full length deal with their next recording. Cool by me = mo music.
Ryan has left HJY mov’n on to mo $$$ & better hrs, etc all that crap. Good for him. So the local show is being now done by Big Jim: bigjim@whjy.com. Check out the change. 94.1 WHJY: Big Jim / Sunday nights / 11:00 PM / http://www.whjy.com/programs.htm

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow. |
