If you all haven't heard yet, after the show at The Continental in NY Donnybrook's Jeremy Rankin, Matt Daigle, Matt's girlfriend, and their manager Patrick Laforge were in an accident. Matt, his g/f, and Pat are said to be a bit bruised, but okay...although Jeremy came out with severe head trauma, a broken wrist, shoulder, and leg. They said he's conscious but very hurt. Although the already booked shows are cancelled (means shows are on but Dbrook ain’t play’n of course) and they won't be booking anymore in the near future, I think it's best that we all continue to show our support. Any proceeds, donations, flowers, cards, etc. can be sent to the address below. This can go towards the medical costs and gear damaged in the wreck, but mostly for Jeremy's sake. So I'm sure anything we can do will be greatly greatly appreciated. Hope you feel guys feel better soon.

OK, moving thru the true dead of winter here but ya always have local rock to keep you warm. So last week, Friday night I hit Cat’s, The Living Room and The Green Room.

Hadn’t been by Cat’s in a while so it was good to see the gang. Band-wise was hanging with the cool dudes in Letdown for a while. Jeff (Haymakers) was do’n sound. Was able to hang for some of the 1st band set (and they were [yeah, I know I should know. Shut up! New to me]) before heading over to The Living Room for some Donnybrook EP release action. I heard this new EP a couple of months ago and it is an understatement to say it sounds unbelievable. Randy didn’t have Phoenix advertising that week so I’m at a slight loss as to who else was on the bill plus I was talk’n quite a bit before I jetted over to The Green Room for a very cool bill with Blackstone Valley Crew (finally snagged the CD! Thx Josh), Kobalt & Freakshow. What a blast!

So Sat. night I was supposed to do a slugworth acoustic opening thing at The Safari but I caught a nasty bug thing so I had to cancel for illness. Sucks, but whatcha gonna do. At least it wasn’t that frigg’n Norwalk Virus that’s been spreadin.

Other news?

OK, well, hey; if anyone can recommend someone who does sound systems for restaurants, bars, etc please have them call Max over at Maxs Upstairs on Thayer St. (331-6297), he’s looking to have his overhauled immediately.

Our/slugworth new drummer Mark Ray is going to be purchasing a new kit so if anyone’s got a good lead please call me 860-564-4209. For now former power slug-drum Dave Avery has been gracious enough to let us use his (thank you Mr. Avery).

So last week I said I couldn’t remember the 2nd off shoot new band from the break-up of Soulshed when members I ran into at The Green Room & I were rapp’n last last weekend but I believe it was Nate (right?) W/Just Promotions that reminded me it’s "Sunday Silence." And the other one is Skintrance, right? Man, the drugs from New Years are still wearing off I think.

So Holy Cow recently wrapped it up. Bob Gulla/Phoenix commented on it also. All I know is they were around forever. Wow. Recall seeing them a few times. A heavy dark sound has departed.

OK, here comes Friday night. It’s gonna be an ass-biting cold one so get out and get warm in the clubs. Get close to the stages so as to catch the warmth of the tube-amps!

Last Saturday we slid back into the cool New Wave out in New Bedford (www.newwavecafe.net) by way of invite from Baylies Band (thank you) and had the usual good time. Before heading back to the city we caught Humbuck who we’ve played with at The Safari before. Cool guys. The drummer is particularly mental (of course)...

Coming in at furious angle. Yes, I am on the local music move. Shit, after last night, that was tough being near a TV, you can only take so much 911 remembrance without getting pissed and down all at once. Especially when they bring out the kids.

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow.
