So here it is again another review to remind you of what local music is doing for a crazed fan like me. Saturday night I made my way to the cat’s club in the beautiful town of Pawtucket. The show lineup consisted of Jesus Candy, Overfiend, Routine 8, Slugworth, and Freakshow. Of course my usual favs were there so I am back to share my night with all you other crazed fans out there. I spent some time drinking and playing pool on the bar side and did not see the first two bands perform.
I had the unfortunate experience with Jesus Candy at the Call one night and made a clearcut decision to not do that again. I did stumble upon a demo album that was floating around and did pop it in for a second chance. This time if I didn’t like it I could at least shut it off. This band is really bad. There are some cool guitar solos that were cool when chicks teased their bangs, but after that it still sucks Check it out for yourself.
Sorry.
I did make my way into see Slugworth who is heavily rooted in the Prov scene with crunchy garage rock that brings out the feeling of raw and unsolicited energy. You can always feel refreshed after kicking back with these guys. They are enjoying a new drummer, who seems to be settling into life as a slug drum with ease. Different in style, I think he has added a spicy ingredient to the band. Clashing symbols and tight tearing beats he has given these guys a new edge. The crunchy just got crunchier.
I did make my way back to the stage to watch Freakshow play, my objective of the night. If you have not been to one of these freak shows you better catch them quick. These guys will be heading off this spring to L.A. to get their slice of the fame pie. Unique and exhilarating you cannot walk away from Freakshow without feeling violated. They capture your soul and spit it out in a scream. Do not miss out on seeing these guys before they leave. Also deeply rooted in the providence local rock scene, Freakshow has taken a shape of immense proportions. Talented and mesmorizing they are an unstoppable force that will explore all your senses every time you see them.

Hope to find everyone recovering from the attack of the local rock scene on Friday night. The comfortable collaboration of musicians will be leaving a long lasting impression on my skin...
Crazed Rock Fan used to send out regular mailing to the scene and attend shows. He was crazed, and he was dedicated... and now he's gone, off to parts unknown. We archive the remainder of his work here.
