Dogfight is one rock band that you do not want to mess with. Both emotional and talented, they have proven over the past three years that you can rock hard, play aggressive, yet still have a message- something that people can learn from your music. Too many bands on the scene right now scream and thrash uselessly, as they only portray their emotions, leaving out an important component to music, their collective minds. Dogfight keeps a great balance of both these aspects.
Their first album, "Separation" was released in 2000. A year later, they released "Suffer and Goodbye". And just this past fall, their third release, "Push" was welcomed with open arms to the Boston area. Their single "Another Day" has received much acclaim from critics and local fans alike. Requests at local Boston radio stations have kept some decent rotation for Dogfight. Their strong fan base has made for an easy task in getting their music noticed on broader mediums.
"Another Day" is a great example of Dogfight’s strength, testosterone-pumped music with almost touching- yet ass-kicking- vocals. Their blend of the beautiful and the dominant give them a more unique style than your average hard rock band.
The line-up includes Mike B. behind the microphone, Danny D. on drums, Mike Q. on the bass (with vocals) and Eric O. on the guitar (also contributing vocal work). Though most of their songs are heavily guitar-and-bass driven, their drum work and vocals are nothing to sneeze at. The band is well-rounded in their talent, balanced and resounding with pinpoint accuracy.
Keep your eye open for Dogfight. These guys will be around for quite awhile to come. Check out their website, www.dogfight.org, for downloads of "Another Day" and "Push", the title track from their most recent venture. Also check out the accompanying album review by Lark Rissetto.
Decibel Magazine was one of the better attempts to dethrone The Phoenix as local music God. It folded after a few years, and we archive some of their material here for the benefit of future generations.
