SATYR WEEKEND RECAP: BURLESQUE DANCERS, DRINKS TOSSED, NUTS EXPOSED MARILYN MONROE NAKED AND JON TIERNEY CD RELEASE THIS WEEK
SATURDAY NIGHTS SASQUTCH GREEN ROOM SHOW
Where to begin? In the wake of the recent Jake’s hoopla I knew this would be the show to be at this week and I wasn’t wrong by a long shot.
What can we say? First off; you’ve gotta give massive credit to Sasquatch for having the motivation to provide this kind of entertainment for your money. Who else has a projection screen set up behind the drums playing whacked out vintage black & white anti-drug films from, I dunno, the 40’s? The 30’s? And then some smoking hot vintage soft-core voyeuristic movies of a young Marilyn Monroe rolling around all naked teasing the camera. I must say I never realized what a fucking 10 that woman’s body was.
Who else has burlesque dancers in-between the sets?
I did get into the first band The fairly new Demon Truckers. Dug it. The 2nd band, an all girl thang, I was socializing too much and their tunes really didn’t grab me at the moment. What was their name?
Sasquatch took the stage and in now traditional fashion started in on things by throwing a bottle on the main floor (didn’t break) and had a spontaneous rant of disdain full of motivational insults for the common man to be affected by. All to the back-drop of his guitar strumming along one of his cool rock rhythms. Now I’m way OK into the whole thing of mixing, I guess what you could call, politics/psychology and what not with your rock show but I think a better balance can be achieved because it can just push it, currently in his set, to the point where you really want the songs to come a little faster. And the songs did of course come, and they are great tunes really. As said, the new CD rocks (Burning Miles of Sin) and I’ve got it in heavy rotation. The new drummer (Natalie? Right?) fits in very cool and Johnny Viveiros provides that way cool stand up bass thing. Of course the main attraction is the man himself. All I can say is, I’ve shared the bill with Sasquatch plenty of times over the past several years (not to mention he was my personal bartender [Viva/Paragon East Side] and late night party crasher guitar playing cohort) and the focus of his whole mission has really taken on a new level. I mean the guy has incredible passion (even if misunderstood at times) and tours his ass off.
I had to cut out for the drive at 1:30 so I didn’t catch the whole show and of course Sasquatch plays till like 5:00 AM.
I have to mention another dramatic part of the night, when he’s throwing out his fun loving insults, you’ve gotta expect reaction sometime. If you going to dish out that kind of hardcore sarcasm it can hit nerves sometimes and he knows that so it wasn’t with to much surprise when he verbally hurled one out at long-time bartender Bob Mac (also was/is Bass blayer for The Young Ones [still jamming?])and he responded by coming up to the stage and nailing him with a glass of (water?). That was fun. Sasquatch Reaction? Kept on rocking. Of course then there was some guitar tech issues I was trying to help him work out right after that and I don’t think was related to the drink toss and it was resolved pretty quick. I can only wonder hoe the set ended.
Oh right, yes, there’s more. As the header of my email suggests and as I’m sure if you were there you saw it; that was Sasquatch’s nuts that he flashed for an all too long fleeting moment onstage. I can’t resist saying it, but that takes balls. Thank god I had the images of Marilyn Monroe to offset that trauma in my memory banks.
And kudos to The Green Room and Dave Lysik for not being a pussy venue to ban bands for doing such things. It’s rock and roll. Lighten up. Like the beer vendor that muscled Jake’s. What? Why? Because he hurled onstage? Does it mean people didn’t drink as much beer? Stay away from the crazy night life if your going to be that way. I think a club in Mystic and The Middle East has also banned him for even such trivial things as swearing onstage and busting peoples balls. Whatever, so what he’s a little over-the-top.
A lot of cool scenesters on hand that night. Donnybrook who seems to blow in and out of town like the wind apparently had just blown in from Tehas.
Ryan was doing sound, he was ill’n but put in a good job regardless. And shout out to Jorge handling the door. Word.
OK, enough of that, on to another great show and act this week. Next.

THE PLACE TO BE THIS WEEK / JON TIERNEY CD RELEASE
http://jtathetruth.tripod.com
So in keeping with back to hitting at least one show a week, this week I pick the new CD release thang for Jon Tierney and his Truth. I love these guys. Always great musicianship. Jon can wail on the pipes and Brad O’Brien is one fine bass player (and I mean that in a bass playing way, don’t get any ideas). Plus the added guitar player they had with them for a while and then lost will be back (Rob D'antuono).
It’s this Saturday at The Call. The 14th. I haven’t been by The Call in a bit but what a great sound-system they have. I will be there.
The new CD is entitled: "Live and Treading Water" I’m sure the songs are true and heartfelt as always with the good rolling dynamics and jams that they’re good at.
I do believe Jon will be opening the show solo style.
Orbis (Formerly Orbis Rex) will be closing the night.
SHED TEMPS OUT GUITAR POSITION
Lysik shared with me that one of the Carrion crew/guit is filling in temp for a while whilst they still seek a permanent.
All interested guitarists should contact: xshedx@cox.net

ALL STAR LOCAL COVER SHOW POSSIBILITY
So I was putting the idea out there recently to do a set of cool rock covers involving a bunch of locals by way of getting together at my house and putting them together individually and then having everyone come over and jam it before we take it out on the local road for a little bit. Getting some positive feedback. A little of an undertaking but could be way fun. Everyone please respond if you would be interested in that?
ANOTHER SATYR BAND BLOW-OUT BASH AT MY HOUSE???
Still putting this out there. Bands please respond:
Well I know Days Unknown and K’nypshun have expressed interest in doing another but how’s about more response to say, I dunno, Sept 18th or 25th for another? Let me hear it.
RECORD AT DANGER/JOE MOODYS
The new NASA approved automated study has arrived. If you’ve recorded there before and haven’t been back in awhile you will not believe the new control room. Amazing. And I though Skywalker Studios was cool when I was kick’n it with G.L back in 88.

DUPLICATE YOUR CD’S WITH EGG PUBLISHING/ERIC GODIN (LUCKY DOG OWNER)
This is where we’ve done our last 3. Eric Godin, Lucky Dog shopkeeper. One cool dude. He’s got the connections and art skill to make you CD copies come forth in a timely fashion and look great without busting your wallet like say at Discmakers.

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow. |
