Whoa, just got back from Yankee Stadium yesterday. What an experience!! Totally rocked. They start selling booze at 1:00 and once that started the Sox Yanks rivalry really got heated! Made it though. Anyway so this is the main satyr Rock Report written over the weekend and finished this morning.
Spin he wheel, round and round you go...life is good! Life is sweet, I can’t get that fucking Foxwoods theme out of my head because it’s all too clear they have a billion advertising dollars that once were kids tuitions, buts that because I watch NESN, The Sox and they just pound those commercials baby!
Now, to the biz......
COOL REVIEW I MISSED THOUGH WAS TOLD ABOUT
Pele a writer for Rattlehead (Go there right now and in a free back massage: www.rattlehead.com and go to "The in on the What" link. A bunch of my old Rock Reports are there to.
SATYR THIS AND LAST WEEKEND RECAP, YES, I WAS ALL AROUND LOCAL MUSIC AND LOVING IT AS ALWAYS BECAUSE LOCAL MUSICIANS ARE SOME FUNNY F’D UP CHARACTERS
OK, Sox Yankee game underway. Recovering nicely from The New Wave last night. Sun’s coming out, got some cheap ice Cold Natty Ice with the 5.9 alcohol content. But don’t worry for satyrpalooza I shall have Miller Light in the keg. Maybe 1 or 2 half barrels on one a bunch of iced 30 racks. Ya know. Alcohol and rock ‘n’ roll mix so well together. Tried and thru through the ages.
I think I’m going to fire up the grill and cook some dogs. So the recap. Let’s see...well first off I go to local music shows. And not just when my bands playing. Hate me if you will for motivating you sarcastically but damn you don’t know what your missing if you’re a music love caught in the mainstream and you don’t realize what talant you have right in your city and one’s surrounding. And ya know what’s the coolest thing? It’s O so friggin cheap. Not just because I usually pay no cover because I rule and this local scene can kiss my ass but because, even with the soaring gas prices and lumber, a local original rock cover is still at $6.00 or $7.00 (yea the $5.00 cover has finally started to wave bye bye) bucks bee-ach! Can’t beat it.
So before The New Wave recap I shall go in the way back machine to last weekend where I blew it and went to the beach, because isn’t the beach just therapeutic during these waning days of summer, and then was supposed to hit The Middle East but ending up getting happy early, yada, yada, yada, long story short, at least hung with Donnybrook, Hansen, etc at the pre-local rock game show at The Green Room. Dbrook was just at The New Wave the night before (Fri.) with pretty much some of the same line up. New band name??? Ummm.., those guys who were in Melee. Check. I have my facts down so great when I’m saucy. But more so got in some fun ball busting and catching up on old times with Dbrook. Old times? Yup. They get to be that. In fact Josh M. & I were talking about how they did there first show with us in Prov at The Living Room and it’s at least 4 years no of a lot of good time. I love that shit. Realization, blah blah me could get all philosophical but please no.
So only hung for the pre-Green hang out because wow, from hanging at Galilee, Georges, and then Prov at Max’s good goddity damn I was feeling just great.
So back to lat night at The New Wave. The cool thing about the night was shed was cranking onstage right when the O so exciting Red Sox were embarrassing the Yankees. I got there uncharacteristically late but then again it takes 2 hours to drive down boring 195 east to the club. Ok, right, so it’s only 45 min’s. Still a bitch for us convenience stored peoples.
So worth it thought because the line up was, come on, totally fucking rocking! Missed Imprint and Soma City Ward, Imprint, missed them but of course seen Imprint tons O times but, damnit, still have to catch the post band break-ups incarnation that is now Soma City W. Will get to it unless I have a heart attack in the next month. OK, was that morbid? Sue me. Anyway, WTF!!! The Red Sox are getting their asses handed to them right now at Yankee Stadium and the hands are attached to the Yank’s. Whoa. This is nuts that I’m going to the Yanks home tomorrow. OK, ok that’s not local music but hell so many of us are into that to.
So that’s a rap, the sun was out for like an hour here and now it’s the gloomy shit again. We were supposed to practice today but my bass player, perhaps one of the best on the scene, is evidently at out of touch with reality most of the time. Eh. New song, just cranked lyrics on it and so emerges the title "Some Kind of Thrill", is rock’n by my standards. Will we actually make it into the studio again before I contemplate retiring slugworth? We’ll see. Not a depressing notion at all I just like to look ahead and make decisions based on the inevitable awareness of living. Ut-oh, there I go again.
Am I done?
Oh wait, I didn’t get Soma City Wards email last night. Whoa, search engines really can work! I just got it, still under www.soulshed.net, kind-a duh on my part, but there it is, you guys are on my list like it or not but how could you not? It’s the Iatolla (Spell Check?) of local rock ‘n’ roll-a. It was cool hanging out with some people I haven’t seen in a little while but have been to tons of shows together. That’s where I hang with those people only and it’s really cool being that way.
One of The ex-shed Soma City Ward crew almost demanded I return to wearing my infamous sun-glasses that I phased out, I dunno, a year ago or so now. Funny.
Also, everyone was pretty friggin smashed. A lot of people anyway, and it was good. Drive safe.
SATYRPALOOZA
You’ve all been starting o get bombarded by my final week to go assault on adverting this. So I don’t have to go into it here. Done.
THE BONUS RANT ABOUT OTHER PROJECT I’VE BEEN TILLING THE SOIL ON (TO GET ALL FARMER-LIKE)
So the All Star cover thing and jamming with other musicians, that’s all still going on in my mind but just let me get over the hump on satyrpalooza, in case you were wondering and you know who you are.
Wow, no it’s 7:00 Sunday morning, on to NYC at 8:00, see if I can rap all this. Onward Conquistadors!
Other than that we have a cool venue show this weekend (see Lucky Dog below [that club rocks, check it out]0, I’ve been starting to knock on O’Briens door in Allston and actually have a dialogue going with shred (now come on, although not too creative like mine, that name, does say rock ‘n’ roll. Agreed?) there to hopefully start getting into new clubs because lord knows I’ve played the shit out of Providence & immediate vicinity.
Wow, yes another Ramone, Joey died. I left I guess, right?
In talking with Damian (Haymakers fame) he has some cool news and it goes like this:
I have a new band, "The Revival Preachers" (three piece country honky tonk outfit w/ Jay Berndt from Kilgore on acoustic guitar and vocals and Zack Shedd from Satan's Teardrops on upright bass) and "Too Ugly for Radio" (three piece rock w/ me and the haymakers rhythm section)

GET ON THE SATYR ROCK REPORT
So this email currently reaches about 200 people all nicely broken down by such categories as RI/MA/CT bands, Radio, News, Management but I always want more so if you know of someone who is a local music fanatic like me then make sure you get their email to me so I can get them on board.
And as always be reminded that my ever organized data-base of all things local music is available on request. I’ve got clubs, bands, radio, etc etc and it’s actually useful info.
I love that scene in the movie The Deep Blue scene where Samuel L. Jackson’s character gets eaten by the shark. Cool. |

Satyr, the madman behind Slugworth, used to regularly publish an email known as his "Local Rock Report". It was frequently informative, always mis-typed, and chock full o Satyr's wisdom. Satyr has since moved on to other pastures, and we have archived some of his Rock Reports here so future generations may bask in the glow. |
